Summer School on European Business Law
The Summer School on European Business Law (SSEBL) is a joint project by the Faculty of Law at the Heinrich-Heine-University of Düsseldorf, the Interdisciplinary Center (IDC) Herzliya at the Radzyner School of Law (Israel), the University of Tilburg School of Law (The Netherlands), and the Institute of Financial Services of the University of Liechtenstein (Principality of Liechtenstein). The SSEBL is open to participation by anone of these faculties as well as those who qualifies for the program. International applicants are particularly welcome.
The 25-hour course program focuses on corporate and securities law, financial regulation, antitrust law and the law of intellectual property as well as European constitutional, mediation/litigation and tax law. In particular, the SSEBL's two weeks-schedule is structured in lectures based on the Socratic method and interactive case studies. Participants are expected to have read suggested readings prior to attending and interact in class. A certificate is provided upon completing the program, based on the participant’s attendance.
SSEBL course components are taught by recognized professionals and academics with strong teaching skills and extensive experience in their respective fields. The lectures are generally held in the newly renovated Haus der Universität (House of the University) in the heart of Düsseldorf's vibrant fashion and business district. Special lectures at some of the most prestigious German law firms provide a unique insight into European business law practice. At a networking barbecue, legal professionals and participants have the chance to meet one another informally.
The SSEBL is an excellent preparation for advanced- and graduate-level classes in European business law, and is also recommended for non-European students considering internships or graduate-level study in the European Union. The language of all classes and reading materials is English. The typical participant is a graduate (or graduate student) who seeks to extend his or her knowledge of European business law within a compact and advanced format and is seeking to broaden his or her professional networks within the legal community of Germany's most vibrant business law city.
